Tonight, Inter welcome Benevento, a side who are only in their second season in top flight football in their history.

There is very little historical data for these two sides, on the count of Inter never being relegated from the Serie A in their entire existence, and Benevento being extremely fresh to Serie A altogether.

In the past, the two sides have met three times, twice in the 2017/18 season, and earlier in this current season.  Unsurprisingly, Inter have won all three of these games, winning 1-2, 2-0 and 2-5.

The top scorers in this fixture are Romelu Lukaku and Marcelo Brozovic. Lukaku bagged a brace in the reverse fixture earlier this year, whereas Brozovic done the exact same the first time these two sides met.

Inter aren’t in the best form as of late, only winning 2 games in the last 5 matches, and it is also worth noting that neither Lukaku or Lautaro Martinez have scored in any of the last 4 league games. Inter remain in 2nd place in the table, 2 points behind city rivals Milan.

Benevento were touted as early favourites for relegation at the start of the season, but seem to be proving those who done so, wrong, as they are sitting fairly comfortably in 11th place.

They are 8 points clear of the relegation zone, but will need to improve their current form if they hope to stay away from the bottom three by the seasons end.

Of the last five games, Benevento have lost three of them, and only snatching all three points on one occasion.

One of the main reasons Benevento seem to be struggling of late, is their inability to defend. In the last five matches, they have let in 13 goals, letting 4 in at a time on two of these occasions, against Atalanta and Crotone.

Benevento don’t really seem to struggle to score goals, relative to their ability and league standing. They are 11th on the goals scored table, and leading those charts with 4 goals is former Nerazzuri boy Gianluca Caprari.

Caprari has proven he can change a game, and is not shy going up against big clubs, as he has scored twice against Inter earlier in the season, and grabbed one against Roma as well.

Inter will be looking toward Lautaro and Lukaku to regain their earlier goalscoring form, as neither of them have scored in the last 4 matches in Serie A.

Lukaku remains in 3rd place in the top scorers charts with 12 goals, dropping behind Ciro Immobile who goes up a place after the last round.

Lautaro is 7th in the charts with 9 goals, and it is fair to say Inter’s recent form is mainly down to their inability to create chances for either of these two, and Lautaro’s lack of composure when 1 on 1.

Inter could make it 4 wins in 4 against Benevento tonight, and it is important they retain their 100% record against the side if they are going to be serious challengers for the Scudetto.

Meanwhile Benevento will be using this as a confidence booster if they were to grab any sort of result tonight, and could really propel them further up the table and further away from the drop zone.
