Roma have come under fire from a host of their former players after the sought to send striker Edin Dzeko to Inter, prior to the move collapsing.
The Bosnia international faces an uncertain future at the Stadio Olimpico following a bitter dispute with coach Paulo Fonseca, and Roma had hoped to exchange him with Inter forward Alexis Sanchez.
With that deal eventually coming to nothing, the capital club have faced criticism amongst ex-players who in turn lambasted Roma’s decision to push for the transfer.
In an interview with Radio Radio in Italy, former striker Roberto Pruzzo felt that it was a deal that only suited Inter and was short sighted by the Giallorossi.
“It was an operation that lacked logic. Roma were only doing the Nerazzurri a favour and Sanchez would not fill the role of Dzeko, he only serves as a means of getting rid of the Bosnian,” Pruzzo claimed.
Meanwhile, former Poland and Roma midfielder Zbigniew Boniek also blasted the Lupi for their attempts to offload Dzeko.
“I was amazed when I read about this deal and I don’t see the sense in it,” Boniek declared in an interview with yesterday’s newspaper edition of Centro Suono Sport.
“Roma already have many second strikers and whilst Sanchez was an important player a few years ago, but seems tired now.”
Despite Roma’s attempts to make the deal work, the exchange ultimately collapsed yesterday with no agreement reached.
