After their heated exchange in the Coppa Italia Quarter-Final last week, Inter striker Romelu Lukaku and AC Milan counterpart Zlatan Ibrahimovic have been criticised by Gianluca Zambrotta.

The former Manchester United forwards engaged in a bitter argument shortly before halftime of the match at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on Tuesday, with the pair needing to be separated by teammates and hurling insults at each other.

Whilst both received yellow cards at the time, and Ibrahimovic was later sent off as Inter secured a late 2-1 win, former Juventus and Milan full-back Zambrotta felt that the pair had set a poor example with their behaviour.

Speaking as a guest in the studios of Italian television channel Rai earlier today, Zambrotta insisted that regardless of the cause of the argument, the behaviour of the two players ought to be condemned.

“We must not think about who started it or what the reason for it was, we must instead condemn the reaction and make clear that two great champions should set a good example,” Zambrotta claimed.

Lukaku went on to score from the penalty spot in the match to cancel out an early Ibrahimovic goal, but the Belgian’s yellow card sees him suspended for the Semi-Final first leg against Juventus on Tuesday.
