After sealing a comfortable 4-0 victory over Benevento in Serie A yesterday, Inter were able to deal with the pressure of match well, Italian journalist Matteo Marani claims.
The Nerazzurri secured victory at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza last night through Lautaro Martinez and a brace from Romelu Lukaku, after Riccardo Improta’s early own goal.
It came after leaders AC Milan had extended their lead at the top of the table with a 2-1 victory over Bologna, whilst Juventus’ 2-0 win at Sampdoria had moved them into third earlier in the day.
Writing in today’s newspaper edition of Tuttosport today, Marani claimed that this added pressure to Inter but they handled it professionally in earning a comfortable win against Filippo Inzaghi’s Benevento side.
“Inter dealt with Inzaghi’s side with conviction. After the earlier victories of Milan and Juventus there was a huge weight around them so it was crucial to keep the pace, especially as there will be some important fixtures in the coming weeks.
“Juventus face Roma next weekend and Inter take on Lazio in two weeks, then there is the Derby between Inter and Milan following that.”
Inter’s victory over Benevento moves them onto 44 points after 20 league games this season, as they trail Milan by just two points. The Nerazzurri can temporarily go top on Friday when they face Fiorentina, ahead of Milan’s visit of Crotone on Sunday.
