Antonio Conte was once again left bemoaning Inter’s wastefulness in front of goal after the Nerazzurri fell to a 2-1 loss against Juventus.

Lautaro Martinez gave Inter an early lead but Conte’s side then gave up two cheap goals to Cristiano Ronaldo and went into half-time trailing.

Inter then squandered a series of promising opportunities in the second half, condemning them to defeat and leaving them with a mountain to climb at the Allianz Stadium next week.

“The performance was there, we played a very good match against a very strong team,” Conte told Inter TV after Coppa Italia semi-final first leg at San Siro.

“I think we were the architects of our own downfall, the two goals we conceded were gifts.

“With our incredible chances we should have been more clinical, this is something which is repeating itself too often.

“We must be disappointed and angry with ourselves at the same time.

“In some matches the margin of error must be minimal, today we have been punished severely.”

Conte, who has been in charge of Inter for 18 months, then went on to admit that he could not fault the commitment of his players, who he believes gave everything for the cause.

“I have nothing to say in terms of commitment as the boys gave everything, they showed great desire and determination and tried to overturn an unfair scoreline.

“There are times when you are unlucky, today we had to score and there were chances that would have made the difference between living and dying.”

In conclusion, Conte was asked about how he and the team will approach the second leg next week, but he pointed out that Inter have another game to deal with before then.

“First of all we will have to recover well and have to play in the league with Fiorentina in three days’ time.

“It will be a tough match from all points of view.

“We will only think about the return leg after that.

“We have to recover our energies and let the frustration of an undeserved defeat slip away.”
