Milan Skriniar insists Inter’s players are not thinking about the Scudetto yet but admits he is hungry to dethrone Juventus in Serie A.
Antonio Conte’s side are two points behind Serie A leaders AC Milan after 20 games played, following last weekend’s impressive 4-0 win over Benevento.
The Nerazzurri will be back in league action when they visit Fiorentina on Friday and Skriniar is eager to chase a first league title in 11 years.
“We’ve not spoken much about the Scudetto in the dressing room so far,” Skriniar told Slovakian publication Sport.sk in an interview this week.
“At the same time, though, it’s natural to only chase the highest objectives.
“We’re doing well, there’s only been one team that’s won in the last nine years in Italy and we’d like to change that.
“Having said that, this is the most evenly balanced league season in recent memory and we’ll need to manage not only all the big games, but every single match.
“We’ve played some great games and we’ve picked up some important wins and we’re happy about this, but the season is still very long.
“We need to use the next few matches to confirm what we’ve done so far and to keep improving.”
Despite Inter’s positive progress in Serie A recently, Skriniar remains disappointed about their surprise elimination from the UEFA Champions League at the group stage in December.
Asked if Inter had managed to put their European disappointment behind them, the 25-year-old said: “It’s clear that was a bitter blow for us, and it hurt.
“We still have two trophies to fight for though and I think we’ll go ahead as far as we can on both fronts.”
Skriniar has made 22 appearances in all competitions for Inter this season, scoring twice in their away fixtures against Hellas Verona and Roma.
He played the full 90 minutes last night as Conte’s side suffered a 2-1 defeat at home to Juventus in the first leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final.
