Antonio Conte cannot be blamed for Inter’s 2-1 loss to Juventus in the Coppa Italia last night, a report in the Italian media argued today.

The Nerazzurri got off to the perfect start in their semi-final first leg at San Siro when Lautaro Martinez gave them an early lead, but Conte’s side then gifted two goals to Cristiano Ronaldo with farcical defensive errors to leave them staring at defeat.

Tuttosport handed Conte a rating of 6/10 and said he didn’t deserve much criticism for his team selection or game plan.

“Beyond playing his strongest team and using all his options off the bench with Christian Eriksen, Andrea Pinamonti and Stefano Sensi, there was nothing else he could do,” the Turin-based publication argued.

“The problem was the ridiculous errors his players made.”

Samir Handanovic, Alessandro Bastoni and Ashley Young all received 4.5/10 after each played a pitiful role in Ronaldo’s first-half goals.

Matteo Darmian was rated 5/10 for his performance last night while Marcelo Brozovic and Alexis Sanchez were both rated 5.5/10.

Stefan de Vrij and Arturo Vidal were both rated 6/10 whilst Milan Skriniar, Nicolo Barella, Lautaro Matinez were all rated 6.5/10 for their effort.

The second leg of the semi-final is due to take place next Tuesday at the Allianz Stadium and Inter must score at least two goals to stand any chance of progression into the final.
