Antonio Conte wants Inter to show their pride when they look to forget Tuesday’s defeat to Juventus in their match at Fiorentina tonight, according to an Italian newspaper report today.
The Nerazzurri have a difficult fixture schedule this month, with the second leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final on Tuesday before consecutive league games against Lazio and AC Milan at San Siro.
What’s more, as highlighted by Corriere dello Sport’s print edition, Conte’s side have had four fewer days rest than tonight’s opponents, with Fiorentina playing their last match at Torino last Friday.
Nonetheless, Inter have precious little room for error as they look to displace their city rivals at the top of the Serie A standings, if only temporarily.
The Rome-based publication highlighted two negative trends Inter would have to fix if they were to keep pressure on the Rossoneri with a win tonight.
The Nerazzurri have not won an away match in Serie A since the 2-1 win at Hellas Verona on December 23, which was also the last time an Inter striker – on that occasion Lautaro Martinez – scored a league goal away from San Siro.
Moreover, Romelu Lukaku has not scored away from home in the league since netting in the 3-1 win against Cagliari on December 13.
