Inter Keeper Samir Handanovic Has Become Nerazzurri’s Weak Point, Italian Journalist Argues

Samir Handanovic is Inter’s greatest weakness at the moment, an Italian journalist argued today.

The Slovenian has performed poorly for the most part this season, with a string of avoidable mistakes costing the Nerazzurri goals at key moments.

Stefano Agresti believes Handanovic deserves a 4/10 rating for his performances this year and even suggested the time had come to drop him.

“Are we certain Ionut Radu couldn’t do any better than the current Handanovic?” he asked in a piece for CalcioMercato.com.

Former Romania under-21 international Radu, who is under contract with Inter until the end of the 2023-24 season, has not featured at all under Antonio Conte this season, not even in the Coppa Italia.

The 23-year-old is a product of the Nerazzurri’s academy but has only made a single first-team appearance, coming on as a second-half substitute during a 3-1 defeat at Sassuolo on the final day of the 2015-16 season.

Inter have been strongly linked with signing a host of Serie A goalkeepers to replace Handanovic, including Udinese’s Juan Musso and Cagliari’s Alessio Cragno.

Sebastian Frey believes Inter will look to secure the 36-year-old’s successor during this summer’s transfer window, arguing Handanovic was ‘almost finished’.

Nonetheless, Handanovic will once again start between the sticks for tonight’s Serie A match away to Fiorentina.
