After seeing Inter move above his side in the Serie A table yesterday, AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli insists that the standings are not important at this stage in the season.

The Nerazzurri leapfrogged their city rivals after a 2-0 win over Fiorentina at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, with goals from Nicolo Barella and Ivan Perisic moving Antonio Conte’s side one point clear.

However, Milan face Crotone at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza tomorrow and will return to the summit with victory, prompting Pioli to downplay the importance of the ever-changing leadership at such an early stage of the season.

“The momentum comes from ourselves, we are playing at home and want to continue from where we left off after beating Bologna,” Pioli declared in his pre-match press conference today ahead of the clash against Crotone.

“The incomplete table does not interest me, I am just looking for a strong performance. Until last night we were top of the league and we want to return there, but we have to get used to playing with pressure as the number of matches reduces.

“It is a privilege to have this kind of pressure but we are only focused on Crotone, playing with quality and intensity.”

Milan are looking to earn a fourth win in seven league games since the turn of the year, having suffered defeats in Serie A for the time this season, against Juventus and Atalanta respectively.

The Rossoneri are seeking a first Scudetto since lifting the league title under Massimiliano Allegri in 2011.
