Inter assistant coach Cristian Stellini praised the Nerazzurri’s players for putting defeat to Juventus behind them after they secured a 2-0 win at Fiorentina.

Nicolo Barella and Ivan Perisic got themselves on the scoresheet and gave Inter a win which has allowed them to leapfrog AC Milan and go top of the Serie A table.

Stellini was impressed with the display given it came only 72 hours after their loss to Juventus in the first leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final.

“Today the team did very well because after a difficult match like the one against Juve, it was not easy to come here to the Franchi and play this match,” Stellini remarked in an interview with Inter’s official club broadcaster Inter TV.

“I must congratulate the boys for the chances they created and for the performance they produced.”

Stellini, who has been Inter’s assistant coach since 2019, was then asked whether he was expecting such a reaction from a physical point of view given the energy used up against the Bianconeri in mid-week.

“Yes I did, we are doing well,” he said.

“We are a team that works a lot and are very applied and we always expect to manage the game as we prepared it.

“We are strong, we know that, we have to play these games but it is not easy to do it just a few days after a match.

“The team were good at recovering physical and above all mental energy, some matches make you waste a lot of energy and you have to be very good and lucid to recover and do the right things on the pitch.”

Stellini was then asked about the team’s spirit and the fact they are very supportive of one another on the pitch.

“The way we interpret matches is growing and improving, and perhaps Antonio Conte’s absence through suspension tonight empowered the boys and made sure they all tried to help each other.”

In conclusion, Stellini was asked whether Tuesday’s loss has helped Inter become stronger despite their disappointment for the final score.

“It’s true,” he admitted.

“I agree because against Juventus it was a game that we lost 2-1, but the tie is not over yet and we are convinced that we still had a good match and that we had the opportunity to rescue a result.

“We didn’t manage to do that but we did not lose heart and we approached tonight’s match with the right spirit.

“We must continue to grow and work because only in this way can we become more aware.”
