Having previously struggled against Fiorentina this season, Inter were comprehensive victors as they ran out 2-0 winners in Serie A yesterday.

The Nerazzurri were comfortable at the Stadio Artemio Franchi as goals from Nicolo Barella and Ivan Perisic took them top of the table, ahead of AC Milan’s match against Crotone tomorrow.

It was the third time Inter had faced Fiorentina this season, with an opening day thriller requiring two goals in the last five minutes to seal a 4-3 victory at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

Most recently, the pair had met in the Coppa Italia, with a hard-fought match settled deep into extra time by Inter’s Romelu Lukaku.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of Corriere della Sera, the Nerazzurri were far more comfortable this time, with Barella in particular coming in for praise for his performance in midfield.

“Inter beat Fiorentina for the third time this season and if the first two had been achieved through great struggle, in the final moments, this time they had it wrapped up in an hour,” Corriere della Sera reported.

“Once again, the inexhaustible Barella was at the heart of it all. His goal, just after the half hour mark, was a ballistic masterpiece from outside the box.”

Inter look to maintain their push for a first Scudetto since 2010 when they take on Lazio at home next weekend.
