Inter midfielder Nicolo Barella is currently the best player in the Italian national team setup, according to Italian media.

The 23-year-old continued his fine form as he opened the scoring in Inter’s 2-0 Serie A victory over Fiorentina yesterday, curling in a stunning effort from outside the box at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

Ivan Perisic doubled the advantage in the second half to send the Nerazzurri top of the table, but it was Barella’s performance that stood out, as reported in today’s newspaper edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“The best, once again, was Barella. Great goal, quality play and the inexhaustible energy of a Duracell bunny,” La Gazzetta dello Sport reported of his display.

“At the moment there is no Italian who is playing better football than him.”

Former Cagliari midfielder Barella joined Inter on an initial loan in 2019, before sealing a permanent transfer last summer, and has scored seven goals in 71 appearances for the Nerazzurri.

Barella earned his first Italy cap in a friendly against Ukraine in October 2018 and has gone on to represent the Azzurri 18 times, scoring four goals.
