Inter centre-back Stefan De Vrij came in for praise from Italian journalist Fabio Caressa after the 2-0 win over Fiorentina yesterday, although he was critical of fellow defender Alessandro Bastoni.

A solid victory at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, sealed with goals from Nicolo Barella and Ivan Perisic, sent Inter top of Serie A ahead of AC Milan’s match against Crotone tomorrow.

Whilst goalkeeper Samir Handanovic was required to be on hand to deny Giacomo Bonaventura, Inter were comfortable in defence and Caressa was impressed with the way De Vrij in particular marshalled Viola striker Dusan Vlahovic.

Speaking to Italian radio station Radio Deejay earlier today about the Nerazzurri’s win, the journalist praised De Vrij and partner Milan Skriniar, whilst offering advice to 21-year-old Bastoni.

“De Vrij put Vlahovic in his pocket and kept him there, whilst Skriniar was solid as usual. I like Bastoni, but he must lose the excessive confidence and complacency,” Caressa claimed.

Netherlands international De Vrij has made 110 appearances for Inter since signing from Lazio in 2018, scoring seven goals.

Bastoni, meanwhile, joined the Nerazzurri from Atalanta the previous year and has gone on to play 58 matches for the club.
