Inter midfielder Nicolo Barella is currently the best footballer available to the Italian national team after his display in the 2-0 win over Fiorentina, Italian media claim.

Barella opened the scoring at the Stadio Artemio Franchi yesterday with a curling effort from range that found the top corner, before Ivan Perisic netted to send Inter a point clear at the top of the Serie A table.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, Barella’s recent form put him ahead of any other player available to Italy coach Roberto Mancini.

“With great goals and great quality passing, and the inexhaustible energy of a Duracell bunny, there is currently no better Italian player than Barella,” La Gazzetta dello Sport claimed.

Meanwhile, with Inter top of the table ahead of AC Milan’s visit of Crotone tomorrow, the newspaper also suggested that the win over Fiorentina meant Antonio Conte’s side could go into Tuesday’s Coppa Italia Semi-Final against Juventus with less pressure.

The Nerazzurri trail 2-1 from the first leg but hope to overturn that score and reach the Final for the first time since 2011.

“Dreaming for two nights at the top of the table is the perfect way to gear up for a match against Juventus and achieve a feat that has been hanging over everyone’s heads for nine years.”
