Inter coach Antonio Conte is seriously thinking about starting Christian Eriksen in tonight’s Derby d’Italia clash at Juventus, a report in the Italian media claimed this morning.

As per Gazzetta dello Sport’s print edition, Eriksen is favourite to replace the suspended Arturo Vidal on the left-hand side of the Nerazzurri’s midfield trio, ahead of Roberto Gagliardini and Stefano Sensi.

Should he be given the start, and everything points toward him getting just that, it would be another sign of the confidence there now is in Eriksen, whose Inter career has had far more downs than it has ups.

Inter must overturn a 2-1 deficit in tonight’s semi-final second leg at the Allianz Stadium, meaning Conte’s side must score twice to stand a chance of progression.

Eriksen has never started against a side in Serie A’s top seven so far this season, but this might be about to change, albeit in the cup.

The 28-year-old would share the pitch with Marcelo Brozovic for once, too, rather than replacing the Croatian as he did against Benevento in the league last month.
