Former Inter president and owner Ernesto Pellegrini has ruled out a return to the club for himself or Massimo Moratti.

The Nerazzurri’s owners Suning are seeking financial partners to help the club tackle their current financial difficulties, which have precipitated following tough new restrictions on overseas investment from the Chinese government.

BC Partners are the furthest along of all interested parties and have already made an offer to buy the club outright, but there has also been talk in Italy that Pellegrini and Moratti could return as minority shareholders with supporters group Interspac.

Asked by TMW Radio today if he or Moratti would come back to Inter, though, Pellegrini said: “It is time to make way for young people.

“Neither Moratti nor I will think about it.”

Pellegrini, who owned Inter between 1984 and 1995, then went on to share his thoughts on tonight’s Coppa Italia semi-final second leg clash against Juventus in Turin.

Antonio Conte’s side must overturn a 2-1 deficit from last week’s first leg at San Siro, meaning Inter have to score twice to stand any chance of knocking out the Bianconeri.

“I don’t have a crystal ball, but I have hope for Inter because they have been playing very well lately,” Pellegrini added.

“It’s an open game, but Juve are the favourites given the victory at San Siro.”

In conclusion Pellegrini was asked whether it is better for Inter to go through to the Coppa Italia final or win on Sunday in the league against Lazio.

“Winning against Juve would give a nice psychological advantage to beat the other teams afterwards,” he suggested.
