Inter coach Antonio Conte lacked ideas in last night’s Coppa Italia semi-final second leg away to Juventus, according to an Italian media report today.

As per La Reppublica, when Conte made substitutions at the Allianz Stadium he simply replaced defensive minded players with more attacking ones, without ever changing his system or style of play.

Inter were left to play in the only way he knew how and it led to the Nerazzurri getting stuck in a dead end, as they were held to a goalless draw which knocked them out of the competition.

Juventus coach Andrea Pirlo meanwhile adapted his system with substitutions and even went to five at the back at the end.

La Repubblica argued Pirlo ‘at least had an idea’ and deserved to reach the final more than Conte because he showed greater tactical flexibility.

Juventus won last week’s first leg 2-1 and defended well in Turin last night, securing their spot in May’s showpiece event at San Siro.

Inter are now only involved in the Serie A between now and the end of the season, unlike their title rivals Juventus and AC Milan who are also involved in Europe.
