Inter have made an enquiry to Napoli for goalkeeper Alex Meret, according to an Italian media report today.

As per CalcioMercato.com, the Nerazzurri have approached the Partenopei over a possible move for the 23-year-old, who is now firmly the second-choice keeper for Rino Gattuso behind Davide Ospina.

Meret has realised he cannot afford to sit in the shadows any longer and is one of a number of names on Inter’s list, as they look to bring in a long-term replacement for veteran current number one Samir Handanovic.

His agent Federico Pastorello is well aware of Inter’s interest and could help the Nerazzurri secure a deal in the summer, with several of his clients – most notably Romelu Lukaku – having signed in previous years.

Meret has made 12 appearances in all competitions for Napoli this season, in which he has kept a total of three clean sheets.

He has featured just three times so far in 2021, most recently during a defeat at Hellas Verona on January 24, and is expected to be on the bench again for tonight’s Coppa Italia semi-final second leg against Atalanta.

Aurelio de Laurentiis is a big admirer of Meret but the report said it was difficult to envisage him still being in Naples at the start of next season.
