Inter were once again made to pay for their lack of bite in front of goal against Juventus, according to the Nerazzurri’s former defender Beppe Bergomi.

Antonio Conte’s side could only manage a goalless draw in Tuesday’s Coppa Italia semi-final second leg, securing a 2-1 aggregate win for the Bianconeri.

Inter had their chances to open the scoring at the Allianz Stadium but were found wanting in the final third, a problem which has often hampered them this season.

“There was a lack of competitive malice to break the deadlock,” Bergomi remarked in the studios of Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia.

“Inter tried to control the match against a Juve side that defends well.

“The two errors in the first leg had an impact on Inter but I did not see one team as being superior to the other.

“Conte could have changed Inter tactically, but when you have a set way of playing it becomes difficult to do that.”

Bergomi then touched upon Christian Eriksen and whether the Dane can now be considered as a starter.

“I think the starters are Marcelo Brozovic, Nicolo Barella and Arturo Vidal, then there are players who can alternate with them.

“Inter must become aware of their strength, there was great balance.

“They need to stay calm and carry on their journey.”

The 1982 World Cup winner then went on to express his views on the many heated exchanges that took place during the game, with Conte reportedly involved in a scuffle with Juventus president Andrea Agnelli at full-time.

“The rivalry between Inter and Juventus began in the 1960s and there is always some tension,” Bergomi said.

“In general, the benches in my opinion often exaggerate things just to encourage their teammates but with respect for their opponents.”

Bergomi, who spent the entirety of his career with Inter, then sang the praises of some players for their performances in the second leg clash.

“Samir Handanovic has done well in the past two matches after receiving some criticism.

“Achraf Hakimi is a fundamental player due to the danger he manages to create.

“Inter have the best attack in Serie A, but when they come up against a team who sit deep it becomes difficult for them to get chances.

“They do not have players who can beat their man, in the open spaces they are very strong but they have no great alternatives.

“Alexis Sanchez is the only player who gives Inter a little bit of unpredictability.”

In conclusion Bergomi briefly touched upon the Serie A title race: “AC Milan are the ones who deserve the title the most, they have been in the lead from the start.”

Inter will return to league action on Sunday when they welcome in-form Lazio to San Siro.
