Inter striker Romelu Lukaku is suffering from a ‘Juventus curse’ after once again failing to break his duck the Bianconeri last night, a report in the Italian media highlighted.
Tuttosport, via their print edition, pointed out today that Lukaku has not scored or even provided an assist in any of his four games against Juve since he joined Inter in 2019.
The Belgian was suffocated by opposition defenders during the Coppa Italia semi-final second leg at the Allianz Stadium, which saw Inter knocked out by their arch rivals after a goalless draw, preventing him from linking up with strike partner Lautaro Martinez.
Lukaku’s ‘Juventus allergy’, as the Turin-based paper described it, is unusual to say the least, given that the 27-year-old has scored at least once against every other team he has faced four times or more in an Inter shirt.
Inter were without the suspended Alexis Sanchez for Tuesday’s Derby d’Italia and the report argued it could have been crucial to have the Chilean forward available, especially given Lukaku’s inability to find the back of the net against Juve.
Lukaku, who is contracted to the Nerazzurri until 2024, has made 28 appearances in all competitions under Antonio Conte this season, in which he has scored 20 goals and provided three assists.
