Inter’s Samir Handanovic Redeemed Himself With Strong Performance Against Juventus, Italian Media Argue

Inter captain Samir Handanovic was the Nerazzurri’s best performing player in last night’s goalless draw at Juventus, according to a report in the Italian media.

Handanovic received widespread criticism after last week’s Coppa Italia semi-final first leg for his role in the Bianconeri’s winning goal, causing confusion for teammate Alessandro Bastoni and allowing Cristiano Ronaldo to fire into an empty net to make it 2-1.

Gazzetta dello Sport’s print edition today, however, argued that the Slovenian redeemed himself at the Allianz Stadium with a couple of strong saves on Cristiano Ronaldo.

Handanovic was given a rating by 7/10 by the Milanese publication, the highest afforded to any Inter player as Antonio Conte’s side went out of the tournament 2-1 on aggregate.

Stefan de Vrij, Achraf Hakimi and Nicolo Barella were deemed to be Inter’s joint-second best performers with the trio all being given rating of 6.5/10.

Milan Skriniar, Alessandro Bastoni, Marcelo Brozovic and Aleksandar Kolarov’s performances were all meanwhile judged as sufficient with the quartet all being rated 6/10.

Lautaro Martinez, Ivan Perisic and Stefano Sensi were rated 5.5/10, while the worst performances in Turin came from Romelu Lukaku, Christian Eriksen and Matteo Darmian with 5/10.

Conte was given a rating of 6/10 for how he coached.
