Juventus did precious little to truly deserve their Coppa Italia semi-final victory over Inter, at least not if you believe former Nerazzurri defender Daniele Adani.
Inter were knocked out 2-1 on aggregate after a goalless draw at the Allianz Stadium on Tuesday, despite controlling both matches for large periods.
Adani, who spent two seasons at Inter between 2002 and 2004, is convinced the tie could have turned out differently had Antonio Conte’s side been more ruthless in front of goal.
“Juventus have never done more than the bare minimum to win games in Italy,” he said while appearing on Christian Vieri’s Twitch channel, Bobo TV.
“At San Siro and at the Allianz Stadium, they had eight players on the goal line to try and stop goals.
“What if Alexis Sanchez had taken his chance? What if Stefano Sensi had scored?
“Juventus can afford to play like this because they have Cristiano Ronaldo, and with him in your team you always start 1-0 up in Italy.
“But this won’t be enough for them to progress in Europe.”
Adani also commented on the scuffles which broke out during the second leg in Turin, which saw Antonio Conte involved in a row with his former president Andrea Agnelli.
Conte was allegedly insulted by Juventus players and staff throughout the first half before showing Agnelli the finger as he walked down the tunnel, with the Italian Football Federation reportedly opening an investigation into the incidents today.
“I don’t care much about what happened between Conte and Agnelli,” Adani admitted.
“It’s like what happened between Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Romelu Lukaku, it has nothing to do with me.
“There are reasons behind it that we don’t know, they are not clear.
“Was it beautiful to see? No, it sucked.
“So there is nothing to comment on.”
Juventus will face Atalanta in the final at San Siro on May 19 after Gian Piero Gasperini’s side eliminated Napoli last night.
