Former Juventus goalkeeper Michelangelo Rampulla believes Antonio Conte must win the title this season in order to have not failed as Inter manager.

Speaking on Italian journalist Nicolo Schira’s homepage after Inter’s elimination from the Coppa Italia last night, the former Juventus goalkeeper outlined that Inter must now go on to win the Scudetto this season in order to not be deemed as having failed.

Inter were eliminated from the Coppa Italia after a 2-1 first leg defeat in the San Siro left them trailing going into last nights fixture which was a stalemate between the two clubs, this outcome leaves Inter with only one more chance of silverware in winning the league title.

It can be both a stimulus and add pressure. Should the championship also fail, we would be facing a failed season.

“Antonio always wants to win and will try to instill all his energy in the players” said Rampulla on the consequences of Inter’s elimination.

The first leg defeat proved crucial in Juventus’ triumph and a mix up between Handanovic and Bastoni allowed the Bianconeri to score their winning goal in the San Siro.

“It seems unfair to blame him for a half mistake, because it’s his fault and Bastoni’s fault for not clearing the ball.

“It’s a matter of moments and both were wrong,” said Rampulla when asked whether the blame for the mix up rested at fellow goalkeeper Samir Handanovic’s feet.

Inter also face problems away from the field with the owners of the club reportedly facing financial difficulties, Rampulla, who has spent time in China where Inter’s owners are based gave his opinions on the matter: “the Chinese have become smarter, they have turned off the taps by putting salary caps to 3 million, and they have limited the export of capital abroad.”

“They want the money to stay in China and make Chinese football grow” explained Rampulla who believes Suning’s financial problems stem from government restrictions and not a lack of funds.

I tell you that these Chinese companies could easily buy Inter, Milan, Juventus and Roma without batting an eyelid, if there were no restrictions” stated Rampulla.

No one can be sure exactly what has caused Suning these difficulties however the rumours of the company searching for investors suggests they are in serious need of a cash injection.
