Inter’s former midfielder Borja Valero insists he has no regrets over his decision to join the Nerazzurri in 2017.

Valero joined Inter in a €5 million deal from Fiorentina and spent three seasons in Milan, before returning to the Viola on a free transfer last summer when his contract expired.

The 36-year-old was instrumental in helping Luciano Spalletti guide Inter back into the UEFA Champions League after a six-year absence, making 36 league appearances during his first season.

“I didn’t regret leaving Fiorentina, although I was forced to go,” Valero explained in an interview published on Fiorentina’s website.

“Whoever was in charge gave full powers to a person who didn’t like me very much (then sporting director Pantaleo Corvino) and that’s how it went.

“Fortunately I had the opportunity to come back here.”

Valero, who came through the ranks of Real Madrid and also played for West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League, made exactly 100 appearances across all competitions during his time at Inter.

He brought a wealth of experience to the team and scored a total of five goals, without providing any assists.

Since his return to Fiorentina, Valero has made 14 appearances, including two against Inter, but has not scored or assisted.
