The Champions League format will change from 2024 to including 36 teams instead of the current 32 risks impacting Serie A, Italian media report.
As reported in yesterday’s print edition of the Corriere della Sera, the new format of Europe’s elite competition could impact the Italian league as a whole.
The new format will result in an increase in matches played by the Italian clubs taking part in the Champions League.
This mainly affects the income clubs will take from television rights, meaning more European games could result in less Serie A games being broadcast throughout the season.
Television money is a huge source of income for clubs all around the world, less TV coverage could prove to be financially devastating for the lesser clubs of Serie A but more income for the clubs involved in the competition.
Inter would be expected to be participating in the competition every season which would mean more games to play for the players however more income for the club who would welcome the idea of extra income.
