Nicolo Barella will become the next captain of Inter after Samir Handanovic, according to an Italian newspaper report today.

As per Gazzetta dello Sport’s print edition, there is a common goal shared by everyone at Inter to make Barella the next club captain.

Barella started the Antonio Conte era at Inter and has become absolutely indispensable for the team and the performances that he is putting in on the pitch are no longer surprising.

Inter forked out around €40 million to sign the recently turned 24-year-old back in 2019 but thanks to his performances, his value has now at least doubled to €80 million and he represents the future of the Nerazzurri.

Barella is contracted to Inter until 2024 but it is clear that he will need a new contract in order to discourage potential buyers.

Inter will review the conditions of the former Cagliari midfielder’s deal as soon as they can, in order to give Barella the recognition he deserves.

This season the Italian national team player has made 31 appearances, in which he has scored three goals and provided 10 assists for his teammates.
