Inter tried to sign Borussia Dortmund wonderkid Youssoufa Moukoko a few years ago, according to a former Nerazzurri scout.

Moukoko, who made his debut for the Bundesliga giants shortly after his 16th birthday last November, has been known in the media for several years thanks to his prolific scoring record while playing at several youth levels higher than his age group.

He has made 11 appearances for Edin Terzic’s side in all competitions, but the teen sensation could have ended up playing for the Nerazzurri instead.

“A few years ago, a trusted contact advised me to go and look at a 14-year-old who was playing in Dortmund’s academy,” Adelio Moro explained in a column for Friday’s print edition of Tuttosport.

“They told me: ‘He’s already a man, you’ll see that he makes it to the top quickly.’

“And they were right.

“The boy in question was Youssoufa Moukoko, who made his debut this season at 16.

“At the time Inter management tried to understand if there was any possibility of signing this kid, but obviously they were never going to sell him.”

Cameroon-born forward Moukoko is already part of the Germany under-20 national team set-up and looks set for a very bright future in the game.

He has scored 15 goals in as many games for Dortmund this season, two of which have come at senior level.

Moro also spent three years playing as a midfielder for Inter during the 1970s, before becoming one of their scouts post-retirement.
