Former Juventus and Napoli defender Massimo Mauro has expressed if Inter do not win the title this season it would be a failure.
In an interview with in today’s print edition of Italian newspaper Libero, Mauro believes Inter must deliver the title this season to prevent a sporting drama.
Despite this the defender still believes Juventus are the favourites to win the title.
“As a team they are still the strongest, slightly superior to Inter but Milan are deservedly first. The Milanese don’t have champions like Bonucci, Chiellini and Ronaldo” said Massimo Mauro.
The title race this season is very much a three horse race between the big three in Italy and as things stand any of the three could win it.
“Milan play better, but Inter have the advantage of not making the cups” said the former defender when asked which of the two Milan clubs poise the greatest challenge to Juventus.
With Inter only having the league left to play for the pressure is increasing on Conte and Inter to go on and win the title.
“It would be a sports drama, the excuse of the financial crisis does not hold up.
“They have to think only of the field, they train and play only for this until May and they can’t make mistakes” said Mauro on the possibility of Inter not winning the title this season.
Mauro concluded his interview on being asked who he felt was the best winger in the league and who had the most similarities to himself.
“Hakimi and Cuadrado are the best today. I was from other times, Cuadrado if he was slow like me, but he goes too fast. I was stiff and in fact I went from wing to play in the middle”
