Inter CEO Beppe Marotta believes that the most consistent team will end up winning the Serie A in an interview with am Italian broadcaster moments before kick-off against Lazio.
Speaking to Sky Sport Italia ahead of kick-off at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Milan’s San Siro district, the former Juventus CEO underlined how the Nerazzurri have to remain focused on their own matches.
“We must make our way beyond the other results. The championship is not a cup tournament, in the end the most consistent team wins.
“Our final destiny depends only on how we walk this path.”
Marotta was then asked if tonight will be a night that will be remembered at the end of the season, to which he replied that he didn’t think it was.
“No, we are still a long way off the end of the season. We will be able to reflect on the performances against extraordinary opponents.
“Lazio are on excellent form, then we have Milan coming up, so we are up against two of the biggest tests we’ll face and it can give us a better idea of where we stand.”
In conclusion Marotta was asked if he wanted to see an Inter worthy of winning the Serie A title he replied that he believed that the squad will answer the call.
“The players must never forget the importance of wearing this jersey, but I am sure the players and staff will answer the call.”
Inter face a strong Lazio side in a game that could prove vital in the Scudetto race. Victory for Inter tonight would see the Nerazzurri climb to the top of the table above AC Milan.
Lazio could climb to fourth place with a victory, creeping into the Champions League place, something coach Simone Inzaghi has stated is the club’s main objective from now until the end of the season.
