Christian Eriksen has put himself in contention to start in Sunday’s Milan derby against AC Milan in Serie A, according to an Italian media report today.

As per Gazzetta dello Sport’s print edition, the Danish midfielder can have hope of a place in Antonio Conte’s XI after impressing in Inter’s 3-1 win over Lazio last night.

Eriksen, who had a difficult first year at Inter, is now completely involved in the project at the club and he is a strong candidate for a starting jersey in the Derby della Madonnina, thanks also due to Arturo Vidal’s ongoing knee injury.

The 29-year-old has proven himself capable of slotting into the Nerazzurri’s midfield alongside Marcelo Brozovic and Nicolo Barella, meaning it is easy to imagine that he will start against the Rossoneri if Vidal does not recover in time.

Gazzetta argued that up until very recently it seemed unimaginable that Eriksen would do well at Inter, but in the past few games he has played well and started turning his Nerazzurri career on its head.

Eriksen played 72 minutes against Lazio before being replaced by Roberto Gagliardini, playing a key role in the move that led to Inter’s first-half penalty.
