Christian Eriksen’s understanding with Marcelo Brozovic is ‘starting to work’ for Inter, an Italian media report argued today.

Antonio Conte started both together in midfield for the second game running last night, with the pair again impressing during the 3-1 win over Lazio.

As per Corriere dello Sport’s print edition, Eriksen’s upturn in form means Conte does not need to rush Arturo Vidal’s return from injury ahead of Sunday’s Derby della Madonnina.

The Denmark international has proven he could start against AC Milan if Vidal still had trouble with his knee, the report claimed.

Inter enjoyed a near-perfect night against Lazio, with Alessandro Bastoni, Nicolo Barella and Marcelo Brozovic all avoiding the bookings that would have handed them a suspension for the derby.

It was Eriksen’s performance that had most talking, though, with CdS highlighting the significant comments made by both the 29-year-old and Conte after the match.

“We’re working a lot together and the understanding is improving,” Eriksen said of his partnership with Brozovic.

Conte, meanwhile, said of the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder: “He’s starting to understand what we want from him.

“Now I feel more calm when picking him, we’re on the right path.”

Inter head into Sunday’s derby top of Serie A for the first time this season, and clearly there is no need to risk Vidal in midfield if he hasn’t recovered fully.
