Inter will become Serie A champions for the first time since 2009-10 this season, based on projections from a report released today.

The Nerazzurri went top of the league on Sunday after defeating Lazio 3-1 win at San Siro, ahead of Sunday’s crucial Derby della Madonnina against AC Milan.

The International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES) has published a report which has provided a forecast for the final league table, based on statistics such as shots on target, possession, completed passes and territorial dominance among other metrics.

Inter were predicted to finish the season on 81 points, two points ahead of AC Milan and three points clear of current reigning champions Juventus.

CIES’s projections were made on February 10, meaning these statistics do not factor in Inter’s win against Lazio or AC Milan’s shock defeat to Spezia.

Parma, Cagliari and Crotone have all meanwhile been projected to be relegated with points totals of 28, 27 and 26 respectively.

Elsewhere in Europe, Lyon were predicted to finish one point clear of Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1 while Atletico Madrid (with a three-point gap) and Manchester City (with a 14-point gap) were tipped to win La Liga and the Premier League.

Bayern Munich were unsurprisingly forecast as Bundesliga champions.
