Antonio Conte has more than enough at his disposal to bring home the Serie A title for Inter this season, a leading Italian journalist has argued.

Inter beat Lazio 3-1 at home on Sunday with Romelu Lukaku playing a starring role, grabbing two goals and providing the assist for Lautaro Martinez’s third.

The result allowed the Nerazzurri to leapfrog city rivals AC Milan and go to the top of the table after 22 games played, ahead of Sunday’s crucial Derby della Madonnina.

“Inter have gone top for the first time just as they’re starting to play better,” Mario Sconcerti argued in his latest column for Italian daily newspaper Corriere della Sera.

“It no longer matters what the team is missing, what they have is still more than others.

“Conte knows that the team is missing a number ten.

“He looked for it first in Marcelo Brozovic, then with Arturo Vidal.

“He is adapting Christian Eriksen who is improving too.

“Eriksen is involved in the game albeit he doesn’t have the physique and character to match his technical qualities, but he is one more brick in a construction that has become solid.

“Inter will never be perfect but they will very often be the best.

“Conte celebrated his 60th league match in charge of Inter with a 39th win and he has lost just six games whilst in the same period Juventus have lost 10.

“Nothing would be possible without Lukaku, but this is a common argument for all the best teams.

“There has been little continuous improvement from Inter.

“Conte did not throw anything away, he used everything he had, remaining simple, always putting the team back in order.

“We will see where they will finish.”

Sconcerti proceeded to look ahead to this weekend’s derby between Inter and AC Milan, which could prove absolutely decisive when it comes to where the Serie A title will end up.

“The Milan derby is coming, the best match for AC Milan to get their concentration back,” he argued, following the Rossoneri’s surprising defeat at Spezia on Saturday.

“They are the two most complete teams.

“The difference between the Milan clubs and Juventus is in the way they use their star players.

“Lukaku and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are always at the centre of the game, whereas Cristiano Ronaldo no longer is.”

Inter currently have a one-point lead over the Rossoneri, meaing they could open up a four-point gap at the top if they win Sunday’s derby.
