Romelu Lukaku only needed one training session at Anderlecht to prove his star quality as a teenager.

The Inter striker broke through at Anderlecht very early on, making his first-team debut shortly after turning 16.

He starred in the Nerazzurri’s 3-1 win over Lazio last Sunday, scoring twice and setting up Lautaro Martinez for another as Antonio Conte’s side went top of Serie A.

Speaking with Belgian broadcaster VRT, Lukaku’s former Anderlecht teammate Olivier Deschacht admitted: “I will never forget his first training session with us.

“We were playing five-a-side matches in training and he made the difference.”

Anderlecht icon Deschacht, who is still playing in the Jupiler Pro League aged 40 with Zulte Waregem, also revealed he was still in contact with Lukaku, despite the striker having left for Chelsea nine years ago.

“We sometimes get in contact through social media,” Deschacht explained.

“When I do something great he gives me a thumbs up, but it rarely happens.”

Lukaku made 98 appearances for Anderlecht scoring 41 goals which earned him a move to Chelsea.

He has also had spells with West Bromwich Albion, Everton and Manchester United prior to joining Inter in a club record transfer deal in the summer of 2019.

Lukaku has scored 22 goals and provided four assists this season during 29 appearances in all competitions.

He will hope to add to his tally against AC Milan in Sunday’s crucial Derby della Madonnina.
