Christian Eriksen remains favourite to complete Inter’s midfield for the Milan derby on Sunday, according to an Italian newspaper report today.

As per Tuttosport’s print edition, Arturo Vidal’s fitness is improving as he recovers from the knee injury he sustained during the 2-0 win at Fiorentina two weeks ago.

But the Chilean international is more likely to start on the bench against the Rossoneri, before coming on for Eriksen as part of a ‘relay’ during the derby.

Eriksen impressed Antonio Conte with his performance as a ‘mezzala’ against Lazio last Sunday, the report argued, and is ready to face Inter’s city rivals this weekend.

Conte is expected to name an unchanged XI from the Nerazzurri’s 3-1 win over Simone Inzaghi’s side, which took them top of Serie A for the first time this season.

Inter have five players who are one booking from a suspension – Alessandro Bastoni, Nicolo Barella, Marcelo Brozovic, Achraf Hakimi and Romelu Lukaku – but none of them will be rested on Sunday for obvious reasons.

Conte’s players are expected to hold a joint training session today with Serie D side Vis Nova Giussano.
