Inter have an advantage in the Serie A title race due to not competing in Europe, at least according to legendary former Inter midfielder Dejan Stankovic.

Unlike their Serie A title rivals, namely AC Milan and Juventus, Inter can focus exclusively on the task at hand at Serie A, which they have not won since 2009-10 as part of that historic treble winning season which Stankovic was part of.

Stankovic spoke to Sky Sport Italia ahead of tonight’s UEFA Europa League tie between his Red Star Belgrade side and the Rossoneri.

“Inter are having a good season,” Stankovic argued.

“Antonio Conte is able to prepare for matches Sunday after Sunday without having to play in European matches in midweek and in my opinion, Inter have a great advantage.

“I think it really all depends on Inter this year.”

Inter are currently leading the way in Serie A after 22 games having collected 50 points, which was in fact the same amount of points they had collected by this stage the last time they won the title in 2010.

The Nerazzurri currently hold a one-point gap over city rivals AC Milan, who they will face on Sunday in the Derby della Madonnina.

“Tonight I will play my derby with Red Star and then I’ll cheer for Inter on Sunday naturally,” Stankovic added.

Deki admitted yesterday that he was hoping to tire out Stefano Pioli’s side ahead of their match against his former club this weekend.
