Inter midfielder Matias Vecino is hoping to play a part in Sunday’s crucial Derby della Madonnina, according to an Italian newspaper report today.

As per Tuttosport’s print edition, the Uruguayan is a candidate to play a game-changing role in the all-important match against AC Milan at San Siro.

Vecino has not played whatsoever at first-team level this season after having knee surgery last year, but as the report pointed out he does have a habit of delivering for the Nerazzurri in big matches.

The 29-year-old has already scored twice against AC Milan, once in last season’s 4-2 win and also during a 3-2 victory under Luciano Spalletti in March 2019.

Vecino returned to group training this month after his long injury lay-off and made it onto the bench for Inter’s two Coppa Italia semi-final matches with Juventus, as well as last Sunday’s Serie A game at home to Lazio.

He recently played a match for Inter’s Primavera to get some minutes in his legs, scoring the opener in their 3-1 win over Genoa, and earned some more game time yesterday as Antonio Conte’s side played Serie D side Vis Nova Giussano in a training game.
