Ex-Inter Defender Mauro Bellugi Sadly Passed Away Earlier Today Aged 71

Legendary Inter defender Mauro Bellugi has sadly passed away today at the age of 71, Italian media report.

According to FcInter1908, the former Nerazzurri man, who won the league title with the club in 1971, had just turned 71 earlier this month, but sadly passed away due to ill health.

Bellugi’s story moved Inter fans, after it was revealed that he had to have his legs amputated due to complications from his battle with Covid-19 back in December.

The Italian kept his smile despite these struggles, and was immediately given support by former Inter president Massimo Moratti.

The Curva Nord even dedicated a banner to Bellugi, describing him as an example of courage to follow.

Bellugi spent the first five years of his career with the Nerazzurri, from 1969 to 1974, where he made 136 appearances across all competitions.

He then spent five years with Bologna, where he made 111 appearances across all competitions and helped the side win the Coppa Italia in the 1973/74 season.
