Inter CEO Beppe Marotta insisted that owners Zhang Jindong and Suning have the best interests of the club at heart amidst talks of a takeover.
The Chinese retail conglomerate announced that they would be undergoing a change in commerce strategy, whilst concerns continue to surround the financial future of Inter.
However, Marotta was quick to defend Zhang ahead of today’s Derby della Madonnina clash against AC Milan, suggesting that Suning were ready to make difficult decisions with the best interests of the club at heart.
“The owners must make the best decisions while respecting the club. We must do our utmost to ensure a successful end to the season,” Marotta claimed in an interview with television broadcaster DAZN before kick-off at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.
With the Nerazzurri currently top of the Serie A table and just a single point clear of Milan, Marotta also spoke of the excitement surrounding the match and the wider context, with both teams challenging for the Scudetto this season.
“It certainly comes in a extraordinary historic moment. The flavour of the derby is enhanced by the healthy competition for first and second place between both teams,” Marotta concluded.
Inter are seeking a first Scudetto since 2010 and will move four points clear of Milan with victory, whilst the Rossoneri look to reclaim top spot after falling into second last weekend.
