Inter coach Antonio Conte was quick to praise his players after they completed a comprehensive 3-0 win over AC Milan in the Derby della Madonnina today.
The Nerazzurri made light work of Milan in the top of the table clash at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, courtesy of Lautaro Martinez’s brace and a Romelu Lukaku strike.
Victory sees Inter open up a four point lead over their city rivals at the summit of Serie A and Conte insisted that it was the players that deserved the plaudits for the win.
“The congratulations must go to my players, they are the protagonists of such a great performance,” Conte declared in a post match interview with television broadcaster DAZN.
“It was a beautiful match and we must not forget that this is a derby and the league standings added greater importance. We are continuing to grow and I am happy that we prepared well.
“We were good at exploiting opportunities against a very strong side and I must also congratulate Stefano Pioli and Milan for the work they are doing.”
Inter now look ahead to league matches against struggling Genoa and Parma, but Conte stressed that those fixtures would be a test of the Nerazzurri’s title credentials, as they look to maintain their hold on top spot.
“Psychologically, I fear the matches against Genoa and Parma, as they are very difficult challenges. We must show that we have made the leap in quality to remain in top spot. These matches will tell us a lot about what we can achieve,” Conte claimed.
Milan, meanwhile, face a trip to third-placed Roma next weekend as they attempt to close the gap on Inter following the heavy defeat.
