Inter wing-back Achraf Hakimi is expecting a tough encounter in this afternoon’s Derby della Madonnina against AC Milan, but is hoping to secure victory for the Nerazzurri’s fans.

League leaders Inter take on their city rivals Milan at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Serie A, with the Rossoneri only a point behind them, and Hakimi has been named in coach Antonio Conte’s starting line-up.

Speaking to the club’s official television channel, Inter TV, ahead of kick-off, Hakimi outlined a key motivation as the Nerazzurri looked to move four points clear at the summit of the table.

“I expect a tough derby against a great team,” the Morocco international declared. “We want to win this match for the fans and also for our ambitions in the league as we are ahead of everyone.

“It’s a derby that I am looking forward to mainly because of the importance of this club, but also for the fans who are supporting us. I can’t wait to get on the pitch, win the three points and celebrate for them.”

The match sees Hakimi come up against opposite number Theo Hernandez, with the Frenchman starring for Milan at full-back this season. However, Hakimi insisted he had no reason for concern.

“I am ready to face him, but above all I am looking to help my team,” the 22-year-old concluded.

Hakimi has scored six goals in 30 appearances in his debut season at Inter, having joined last summer from Spanish champions Real Madrid.
