Inter’s failure to sell midfielder Christian Eriksen proved to be a blessing in disguise after a positive performance in the 3-0 win over AC Milan today, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Biasin.

The Denmark international faced an uncertain future after enduring a difficult year at the club since arriving from Tottenham Hotspur in January 2020, but featured in the Derby della Madonnina as Inter thrashed Milan 3-0 to go four points clear at the top of the table.

Despite appearing to be heading for the exit, Eriksen remained at the Nerazzurri and has found form, starting the last three matches under coach Antonio Conte.

Speaking to Italian television channel Sky Sport Italia after the match earlier today, journalist Biasin claimed that he had championed Eriksen throughout the transfer window, and the fact that he remained was of great benefit to the club.

“I am very happy, as during the transfer window, when [CEO Beppe] Marotta made it clear he would leave, I was hoping for a miracle,” Biasin stated.

“I wrote that I hoped nobody would be able to afford him so that he would stay and make peace with the coach. These things never happen, but a miracle occurred in the pandemic year. Today he confirmed his talent and ability.”

Biasin also commented on Conte’s demeanour, suggesting that the Nerazzurri coach was under pressure to achieve the Scudetto and be considered a hero at Inter, or come second and be labelled as a failure.

“Conte claims for a fact that we broke his balls and I could imagine a press conference in which a once-proud Conte is pulling his nails out. He knows perfectly well that he will either end the season as hero who delivered the Scudetto or a failure who came second.”

Inter are seeking a first league title since lifting the Scudetto under Jose Mourinho in 2010, as the Nerazzurri extended their lead at the top with victory over Milan.
