Inter’s hopes of securing a move to a new stadium have been put on hold due to uncertainty over the ownership of the club.

The Nerazzurri currently share the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza with city rivals AC Milan, but plans were afoot to rebuild the stadium next to the current location and modernise the ground, with the two clubs working in conjunction on the project.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of Tuttosport, those plans have been halted by Suning’s continued negotiations to sell Inter, with the Chinese retail conglomerate reluctant to commit to a new stadium whilst their own future is in doubt.

Similarly, Milan owners Elliot Management Corporation are also thought to be concerned by Suning’s position and are ready to delay any movement until after Inter’s ownership questions have been resolved.

Meanwhile, plans to knock down the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza and build a new stadium next to it have been dealt a further blow with the confirmation of the 2026 Winter Olympics in the city, and the stadium is likely to be heavily utilised during the Games.
