Inter are convinced they will soon succeed in tying Lautaro Martinez down to a new contract, a report in the Italian media explained today.
El Toro has underlined his importance to the Nerazzurri during the last eight days by scoring in their crucial wins over Lazio and AC Milan.
Calciomercato.com said Lautaro had decided to commit his future to Inter, where he is happy on and off the pitch having just become a father, with little prospect of a move away due to the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Inter have never stopped believing in the 23-year-old and started working on a new deal for the striker more than a month ago.
Lautaro’s representatives have visited the Nerazzurri at their offices in Milan on numerous occasions to negotiate the contract, which should increase the forward’s wages to €4 million annually plus bonuses.
Inter must wait for Suning to give the green light before finalising any deal, though, just as they will need to wait to finish deals for Stefan de Vrij and Alessandro Bastoni.
Lautaro’s €111 million release clause is another key point of talks between Inter and his entourage but the report offered no indication of whether it would remain or be removed.
In any case, both parties intend to continue together, which should ensure talks reach a positive conclusion.
