Romelu Lukaku put his controversy with Zlatan Ibrahimovic behind him once and for all during Inter’s derby win, according to an Italian media report.

Sky Sport Italia said the Belgian was particularly motivated to play well yesterday after his bitter spat with the Swede in last month’s Coppa Italia quarter-final.

Lukaku delivered for Antonio Conte’s side by scoring a tremendous individual goal in the second half, before shouting during his celebration: ‘I’m the best, I told you!’

“He showed the pride of a champion, something which must always emerge in the big games,” Sky claimed.

Lukaku opted not to comment on the tension with Ibrahimovic following their bust-up in the previous Derby della Madonnina, which the Italian Football Federation are still investigating.

The 27-year-old wanted to provide his response on the pitch, with the broadcaster saying he had circled yesterday’s game against AC Milan in his diary.

Lukaku has scored five goals in five Milan derbies since joining the Nerazzurri, something no Inter player has ever done before.

Lautaro Martinez has also helped him form Europe’s second most prolific partnership this season, with 30 goals between the pair in Serie A so far.

Conte is delighted with Lukaku’s return to form, Sky continued, and gave Inter’s players two days off after their dominant performance against their Serie A rivals.

The Nerazzurri boss is already focused on the next two games against Genoa and Parma, however, having ‘realised the danger’ on the horizon.

Sky suggested Inter’s ‘favourable’ fixture list gave them a great chance to consolidate their leadership at the top of the table.
