Former Roma right-back Federico Balzaretti believes that Inter are the clear favourites to win the Serie A title this season, and does not consider any other team to be a genuine challenger.

The Nerazzurri opened up a four point gap at the top of the table after thrashing closest rivals AC Milan in the Derby della Madonnina last weekend, and hope to extend it further when they take on Genoa tomorrow.

Speaking to Italian radio station Radio Deejay earlier today, Balzaretti assessed the performance of former club Roma as they sit in third place, suggesting that neither the Giallorossi or any other team would be able to beat Inter to the Scudetto.

“Roma’s position reflects the value of the team, qualifying for the Champions League would be a great result,” the ex-Italy international claimed.

“Also because above Champions League qualification there is only the Scudetto and in my opinion, the title race is already over this year.

“I thought Inter would win the Scudetto last season but I was wrong by just one year. I’ve been saying they will win since the start of the season and I continue to believe it.”

The 39-year-old spent two full seasons with Roma from 2012 to 2014, before a serious hip injury limited him to just a single appearance on the final day of the 2014/15 season, forcing him into retirement.
