Inter have to continue what they have been doing if they want to win the Serie A title, Nerazzurri defender Matteo Darmian has insisted after the 3-0 win over Genoa.
Inter got off to the best possible start with Romelu Lukaku opening the scoring after just 32 seconds at San Siro.
Darmian doubled Inter’s lead with about 20 minutes to spare and the scoring was rounded off by substitute Alexis Sanchez almost immediately after he came off the bench.
“We knew how important this match could be, we had to confirm ourselves against a healthy team that is doing very well and from the first minute we showed what we wanted,” he confessed to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia following the match at San Siro.
“We had a great match.”
Darmian is someone who has played in multiple roles this season for Inter and today he filled in at right wing-back in place of the suspended Achraf Hakimi and this role is his favourite.
“Is right wing-back my favourite role? Absolutely. In my opinion we all feel important and when we go out on the pitch we show it.
“We know that if we want to get to the end we need everyone, we are proving it and now we must continue like this because we are on the right path.”
In conclusion, the former Manchester United player, who joined Inter this past Summer, was asked what Christian Eriksen said to him after he scored his goal.
“I don’t remember, I think he complimented me, I’m not someone who scores regularly.”
