Inter have not missed a bonus payment to Manchester United for Romelu Lukaku despite reports to the contrary, according to a leading Italian journalist.
Corriere dello Sport today claimed the Nerazzurri were in trouble with the Premier League giants after failing to pay a bonus which had been triggered, leading the Red Devils to demand Lautaro Martinez or Milan Skriniar as compensation.
However, this has now been disputed by La Repubblica’s Franco Vanni, who tried to clarify the situation around Lukaku on Twitter.
“Inter owed €1.9 million bonuses to Manchester United at the end of last season,” Vanni explained.
“After the COVID-19 pandemic, the clubs renegotiated the timing of the payment to July 2021.
“Instead, Inter already paid that bonus in January.
“The relations between the clubs are good.”
Lukaku joined Inter in a club-record transfer deal from Manchester United in the summer of 2019 and has since become the Nerazzurri’s most important player.
In little over 18 months with the club, the Belgian national team player has made 82 appearances across all competitions, in which he has scored 58 goals and provided 12 assists.
He will hope to add to his tally tomorrow when Antonio Conte’s side face struggling Parma at the Stadio Ennio Tardini.
Questione #Lukaku.
