Marcelo Brozovic is a player Antonio Conte views as untouchable in Inter’s midfield, according to a report in the Italian media today.

As per Corriere dello Sport’s print edition, Brozovic is the second-oldest member of Inter’s starting XI behind Samir Handanovic but remains a key figure for the Nerazzurri as they chase the Serie A title.

The 28-year-old might be underestimated or forgotten by some people but the report assured Conte was certainly not one of them, having realised the Croatian’s importance immediately after his appointment as head coach.

Brozovic, who plays as the deep-lying playmaker after Luciano Spalletti changed his position, has gone through difficult periods at Inter, most recently last summer when a swap deal with Paris Saint-Germain for Leandro Paredes was set up but never went through.

The Croatian international split his time between Inter’s starting line-up and the bench at the start of this season, but then Conte realised he cannot do without Brozovic in midfield.

Brozovic has a unique set of characteristics in the Inter squad, which has led to Inter struggling to replace him when he is absent.

This season he has scored once and provided seven assists in 34 appearances.
